Zymes, LLC Adds Director of Clinical and Scientific Affairs to its Team

November 17, 2006

Zymes is pleased to announce that Shelley B. Weinstock, Ph.D. will serve as the Director of Clinical and Scientific Affairs. Her extensive experience in biomedical research is a significant asset to the company as Zymes executes its ongoing preclinical and clinical studies. Her background in biochemistry, physiology, and human nutrition complements Zymes’ current team of doctors and scientists.

Weinstock received her Ph.D. in Nutritional Biochemistry and Metabolism from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After serving as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard University’s School of Public Health, Weinstock joined the faculty of Barnard College of Columbia University and later Montclair State University.  During her academic career, she conducted research and taught organic chemistry, biochemistry and nutritional biochemistry.

Weinstock received many honors and grants throughout her 25-year career. Highlights include grants from the National Institutes of Health to study a cell-polymer implant using a rodent beta-cell line as well as blood substitutes and the reticuloendothelial system. Her early years of research focused on statins and cholesterol metabolism, an area closely related to the biochemistry of coenzyme Q10. She also has published many papers in peer reviewed scientific journals in the areas of nutrition, metabolism, oxidative stress and oxygen delivery systems.
