Zymes, LLC, a bio-science company dedicated to developing improved drug delivery technologies and high-quality, water-soluble, coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) products that provide significant, clinically-proven health and beauty benefits has been formed in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ.
Zymes will bring products to consumers that capitalize on the health and beauty benefits of coenzyme Q10. Coenzyme Q10, required by the body for energy production and as an antioxidant, is naturally produced in every cell of the body. However, its production in humans typically peaks by age 21 and declines thereafter. This has lead to an increase in public awareness of the value of dietary supplementation with this nutrient.
“Decades of research on coenzyme Q10 lends strong support to its role in cellular energy production, as well as a naturally occurring antioxidant.” said Benjamin D. Mamola, Co-founder and Executive Vice President of Global Business Development at Zymes, LLC. “However, its poor bioavailability, due to its insolubility in water, limits its use in a broader range of applications. We are passionate about developing water-soluble coenzyme Q10 products to enhance the benefits to consumers.”
After speaking at a lecture at Rutgers University in March of 1996 on the synthetic chemistry of Coenzyme Q3-8, Dr. Bruce Lipshutz, professor of organic chemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara, spent years of experimentation ultimately resulting in the “Lipshutz” method capable of synthesizing coenzyme Q10. After Dr. Lipshutz secured exclusive rights to this intellectual property from the University of California, he formed a start-up company, Zymes, Inc. Patent applications were filed around the world and Dr. Lipshutz pursued the commercialization of his patented technology.
A phone call from New Jersey prompted a meeting took place in southern California with the team that would ultimately form the basis of a new company, Zymes, LLC. The team’s combined passion for bringing coenzyme Q10 to the attention of the world was evident, and soon thereafter, the founding partners of Dr. Randi Fain, Mr. Benjamin D. Mamola, Prof. Bruce Lipshutz, and Mr. Vince Morano as CEO, launched Zymes LLC .
In addition to the patented “Lipshutz” method to produce coenzyme Q10, the team has ambitious plans to deliver bioavailable water-soluble coenzyme Q10 products. “We believe it is possible to significantly enhance delivery of coenzyme Q10 and other nutraceuticals, as well as pharmaceuticals that, likewise, show poor water solubility. Our goal is to bring a technology to market that improves both solubility and bioavailability of compounds that contribute to the improvement of human health.” said Dr. Lipshutz, Executive Vice President of Research and Development at Zymes.
